Many customers ask about exact heat-up times and maximum temperatures. Here's why those numbers vary—and why they matter less than you might think.
Why we don't list specific max temperatures
Your sauna's ambient temperature and available power draw significantly impact both heat-up time and maximum temperature—factors outside our control. More importantly, focusing on "max temp" misses how infrared therapy actually works.
How to use your sauna effectively
Get in when the sauna reaches 90-110°F and enjoy your session as it continues heating. This keeps the heaters running continuously, maximizing your infrared exposure. If you wait until it hits your target temp, the heaters will cycle on and off throughout your session, reducing therapeutic benefit.
Tip
Listen for a small "click" sound—this tells you when heaters are cycling on or off as they reach the set temperature. Don't touch heaters to check.
Infrared vs Traditional Heat
With traditional Finnish sauna research making headlines, it's natural to wonder how infrared compares. The short answer: they're different modalities with different benefits—not better or worse, just different.
Why people fixate on temperature: Recent Finnish research (using traditional heaters at 176-194°F) has driven massive interest in sauna therapy. Naturally, people assume they need those exact temperatures. But infrared heat is fundamentally different.
Intensity
Infrared heat is more intense than traditional heat at the same temperature. It penetrates tissue more deeply, while traditional heat works primarily through hot air.
Research application
While the Finnish studies didn't use infrared, we believe—based on mechanistic understanding—that infrared at comparable dosages provides similar benefits. This is our professional opinion, not medical advice. Consult your doctor.
